About PE Kei Design        <Previous   Home   Next>

All of my artwork incorporates Bakelite, a vintage plastic produced in the early-
to- mid twentieth century. Bakelite’s bright saturated colors and versatility in
molding made it a popular staple of everyday design - from telephones and radios
to checker sets and costume jewelry.

Production ceased after World War II, when technology developed cheaper, more
easily manufactured plastics. Today, Bakelite is much sought after by  collectors
for its vibrant colors, whimsical shapes, and reminders of a bygone era.

Each of my pieces incorporates genuine bakelite finds - playing pieces, salt
shakers, corn cob holders, and utensil handles, as well as the more conventional
beads, buttons, and buckles. Every PE Kei design is handmade and copyrighted,
with no two pieces exactly alike. If you can't find what you are looking for in my
catalog, and would like to see more PE Kei Designs, have your own design idea
or simply have a question please feel free to contact me.

I  have been experimenting with new colors and media, and the results of that work
can be seen in my new collection.  I hope that you'll enjoy the results!  To view my
