人類進入21世紀后，縮著資源、環境與經濟發展的全球化進程的不斷推進，土地科學國際交流成為必然,土地科學相關的專業詞匯不斷涌入我們的生活。由于該科學是一門融合地質學、土壤學、管理學、法學、經濟學、信息學、測繪學等學科為一體的綜合學科，編撰一本適應社會發展，反映土地科學基本特色的綜合性詞匯手冊就顯得尤為必要。針對當前國內的土地科學相關專業詞典中出現的土地科學類詞匯少、學科覆蓋面窄、新詞更新不夠的情況，中國地質大學(北京)土地科學詞典編寫課題組自2004年3月起，在充分借鑒并吸收國內同類詞典的優點的基礎上，結合我國當前土地資源應用與管理的實際，編撰了這本專業涵蓋全、詞匯多、查詢方便的土地科學實用詞典。本辭典匯總國內外土地科學的專業詞匯1萬4千余條，內容涉及土地法學、土地管理學、土地經濟學、土地利用學、土地生態學、土地信息學、土地資源學等。詞典英中、中英雙解的次序進行編目。其中，中英部分按照我國土地科學學科體系進行分類，各小類中再按照漢語拼音進行排序；英漢部分則按照英文字母降序統一排序，同時，各單詞后附有其學科分類名稱。詞典的附錄部門收錄有物權法、土地管理法、房地產管理法等土地相關法律條文的英漢對照版本，便于讀者參考。由于資料來源的性、編排方式的科學性、涵蓋詞匯的多樣性，本詞典不失為一本可以滿足大中專院校土地資源管理專業及相關專業的師生，及土地管理部門和相關部門工作人員日常工作使用的實用土地專業詞匯手冊。
